Artist's Statement
I create representational landscapes in watercolor on paper. The beauty and serenity of the natural world, the play of light and shadow, and the occasional footprint of civilization comprise the focal points of my work. For inspiration I look to my travels in the United States, British Columbia, and Europe. Long summer days on Mount Desert Island have inspired many of my paintings. I am most drawn to the northern climes, including, Ireland, Scotland, and Brittish Columbia with their unique combinations of forest, mist, and sea. I use 300 lb, cotton, cold press paper that provides unique texture and pigment penetration, adding depth and a certain unpredictability that help me to capture the variability of the natural world.
